I was a high achiever in high school. I won many awards in band. I was the star in the school play. And I nearly gave myself an ulcer to get there, but I graduated valedictorian with a perfect 4.0. There were many scholarships and awards, but there was one that I did not get that will always stick with me.

I didn’t get the “D”.

Probably always and I’m just now noticing.) This seems to mostly apply to the ones that are obvious to me, but hopefully it will some day grow to include the ones that I don’t get, like why on any given day a certain celebrity is a trending topic and if they are actually dead or not. But anyways, I was checking out these trending topic descriptions on Friday and found a truly horrendous Twitter spelling/usage #FAIL. Yikes.

When I think about what motivates me to buy a product, it all comes down to word of mouth. Product A might have a catchy commercial, but if my mom swears that Product B is the best there is, then Product B wins. That’s why advertisers often use testimonials to create the “word of mouth” feeling. Here are some great examples of recent “word of mouth” advertising:

Maybe Not-So-Much a Winner?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Last week I posted some commercials I had enjoyed, including one for Louisville that mimicked erectile dysfunction ads. I thought it was hysterical and was proud that the my city was not afraid to use humor to market ourselves.
