Because I Watched Semi-Pro This Weekend

It’s hard to escape the recession, especially if you’re selling expensive non-necessities, like NBA tickets. Yesterday, the New York Times shared some clever ideas from NBA teams trying to lure customers.

United Breaks Guitars–The Answer

by Susan Gosselin, Vest PR

If the runaway mainstream success of “United Breaks Guitars” wasn’t   humiliating enough, United is now getting advice on how to fix the situation from a social media pundit who’s put his suggestions into a music video.  They should listen to the guy.  He’s pretty smart…

Logos can be life-atlering for some companies.  Logos can take a brand to a new level of awesomeness and some logos can carry an entire brand’s identity.  Take a look at some of the most famous logos of all time and much more interesting see the designs from which they where originated.  I found this on CNNMoney.com.  What are your favorites?  Do you like the new logos or old logos better?

By Katie Earley, Copywriter

The Internet is a complex world, filled with many inside jokes, or memes. Today (Thanks to American Copywriter) I found this informative site called Rocketboom which has a whole section devoted to Know Your Meme. It’s both fun and educational! Here is perhaps my favorite example:

Talking of Michelangelo and Business Role Models

Monday, August 24th, 2009

By Katie Earley, Copywriter

Even as adults it’s important to have role models, someone to look up to and emulate as we work toward our personal and professional goals. Might I suggest for your role model consideration: T.S. Eliot. Mark McGuinness did an excellent article for Lateral Action (which he co-founded and which I found via Copyblogger’s Twitter) on some of the characteristics that made Eliot a creative success and how they can be applied to our business world today.

I’ll admit, my enjoyment of the article springs from my love of T.S. Eliot, who has the great distinction of writing my all-time favorite poem ever (See allusion to said poem in this post’s headline for you English nerds.), but the article has some excellent tips for being a creative professional regardless of your feelings about poetry.

Big Brother, May I have a drink?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

OK, I admit it.  I’m a Diet Coke freak.  So it’s no mystery why my little overcaffinated heart went pit-a-pat when I saw this amazing story on a revolutionary new soft drink machine that custom mixes over 100 different drink combinations, all while sending back dispensing data via RFID to Coca-Cola corporate.  God, I love technology.

Book Trailers

Monday, August 17th, 2009

By Katie Earley, Copywriter

Apparently the new way to promote books is via online book trailers. I find this to be a very interesting idea. Books and Internet/video tend to be at odds, as the drama continues over books being available online and how that will shape the future of books on actual paper and such. To see the publishing world embrace multimedia in this way warms this bookworm’s heart.
