What Can The World Cup Can Teach Marketers?

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

I found this article, and thought it would be a good follow up to my blog about World Cup marketing.  In this article, Barry Finkelstein (Vice President/Director of Public Relations of Erwin-Penland in Greenville, SC), talks about some valuable marketing lessons that we can learn from the World Cup.

World Cup: Making the World More Social

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Like the Olympics, the World Cup is about bringing the World together to show national pride, athleticism and sportsmanship.  In my opinion as a soccer (football) fan, the World Cup is more intimate at bringing the world together because cheering on our home team is our common goal.  Trust me, that pun was intended.

I was wandering the Internet last week as I frequently do and saw some great online ads for Actors Theatre. I’m not sure if they created them in-house or an agency did. Either way, I love them. They have the perfect amount of cheekiness. (Pun slightly intended.)

Transferring Trust

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

No one can sell you something like someone you have pre-established trust with: friends, family or even the endorsement of a favorite celebrity. Now with the Internet you have greater access to opinions and the word-of-mouth commentary we crave for our buying decisions. One example is blogger recommendation, which I only mention because I drove out of my way last night for a blogger-endorsed paint brush. (Yes, that is how I’ll be spending my long weekend. Yay?) But another is the consumer review.

Depeche Mode What???

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love music.  I basically watch TV so that I can find cool new artist or songs.  I also think my dream job would be a music supervisor - the people that place music in TV and movies.  I think I could totally rock that, but that is beside the point.  I really love when music can be incorporated into all facets of life.  In the words of Chelsea Handler, “it makes me want to get naked and high-five myself”.  I don’t think she was referring to music excitement, but still it is the perfect explanation.

So to make a very wordy introduction short, I stumbled upon this awesome blog today about the 5 things Depeche Mode can teach you about effective online marketing.  Enjoy and until then Free the Music (a little One Horse Records plug).  If you want to check out One Horse Records, you know the drill…FREE THE MUSIC.

Claiming Fictional Alumni

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Just found out via AdFreak that Cornell Law School has Andy Bernard as one of the rotating news bits on its homepage.

First, I was shocked. You don’t expect the Ivy League to claim fictional sitcom alumni. Especially one that lacks common sense, is generally awkward and repeatedly made fun of for his Ivy League-ness.

But he’s also a beloved character on a show that is very popular. The average applicant may not recognize Peter Yarrow (class of ‘59, member of the band Peter, Paul and Mary), but they do know Andy Bernard.

Maybe it’s my age, but I love to see businesses not take themselves too seriously, so I applaud Cornell Law for showcasing their most famous fake alumnus. Even though Andy didn’t go to their law school, just undergrad.

I love this video that visualizes, in the most interesting ways, how Google Chrome works. It’s really pretty.

My New Website Crush: Crumpler

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

By Katie Earley, Copywriter

I’m in search of a new camera bag. I still haven’t made up my mind about which bag I want, but I’m leaning toward a Crumpler bag. Sure they get good reviews, were recommended at the camera store, and combine good quality with an affordable price tag, but mostly they have a cool website.
